Iconic Community

The folks at firewheel design have been giving away free sets of their icons with their IconBuffet site for some time. Now, with the re-launch of the site, they’ve created a fun, not so little community site to trade these sets of icons. It’s complete with tokens, stamps, and other ways to barter and exchange based on the icon sets. There is an interesting post up on their blog describing how they built it. Sounds like they ran into some scaling issues, as others have as well.

Update: I linked to the Twitter interview above as an offhand example of a young, popular community site that is running into interesting scaling issues (and it was a fascinating interview). It appears the interview has sparked some conversation.
